Animation is my love, but I think there's definitely room in live-action. I mean, 'Iron Man 2' was fun, and I got to see that world.

For me, animation is the caricature of life. It's something that we create, from the ground up.

I watching this Disney documentary, and I'm not Disney, but I was thinking about Mickey Mouse and he became an icon. Walt moved onto other things but he made him exist. I was thinking, 'Wow, is 'Samurai Jack' my 'Mickey Mouse?' Am I stupid to stop working on it?'

To me, storytelling is a mystery. Especially when you're directing.

Animation is a fascinating area from an acting point of view because it's not really like anything else because you are only providing a portion of the performance. That's very inspiring and it forces you to do things in a different way - to tell stories through your voice.

Luckily, I went to school at CalArts, and then ended up here at Disney, starting in the Animation Building and working my way up. I started as an animator, and then did character designing and storyboarding, and eventually, directing.

My parents knew about the story of Aladdin far before the animation film. It's a folk tale that is very prevalent in Egypt.

When you work in animation, everyone starts on the bottom rung. You don't even draw your own pictures, you just fill in the movements in between the drawings of more experienced animators. There's never any question of anyone in animation not having paid their dues.
