What I think and what the world thinks is totally different.
One of my missions was to teach.
One of the problems of our youth is that the family unit is broken up. When we'd sit down to dinner together as a family, we'd learn about each other. We had something people don't get today.
After failing four times and after working for other people and realizing that nobody paid attention to the food like they should have, we wanted to just pay attention to the food and service.
Of course people assume I am a Muslim. Not that I have a problem with that because when you are an ethnic minority doing well, everyone tries to claim you.
Show people tend to treat their finances like their dentistry. They assume the people who handle it know what they are doing.
People ask me about staying here. I think they assume that I wouldn't want to come back to a place like Mississippi, which is so backward and which frustrates me a lot. The responsibility that I feel to tell these stories about the people and the place that I'm from is what pulls me back.
If you look like a million bucks, people might assume you come from a million bucks.
The way I was brought up in improv was that any idea you have is not as good as your partner's idea, so if I see someone else initiating at the same time I am, I just defer to them because I assume their idea is going be better. And hopefully, they're doing the same with me.
