I can't play guitar or piano. I can't even play dumb to get through TSA in the airport.
I like musk and oud in a really, really delicate way. Because sometimes, if there's too much oud, it just smells like you're in the back of a cab in Harlem and I can't do it.
I say I design music. I can imagine it and sort of picture it. I think about all of the things I do in the world and say that I'm designing it because it takes the same skill set.
My mom made me read a ton of books, so I got good at words and understood the English language. So when I started rapping, words were something I knew. I learned how to manipulate them so that I could say whatever I wanted to say.
I want to live a normal life - drive my kids to school, have tons of animals running around, be barefoot and pregnant. I want all that.
In my everyday life, I just wear jeans, t-shirts and trainers - if I can go barefoot, that's even better. But for the events I have a stylist, and in two hours we have selected a whole outfit.
You look at the Barefoot Contessa or Lydia Bastianich, and it's just like watching your mother cooking.
If I'm not barefoot, you'll probably find me with a pair of New Balance on. And I'm not one of those hipster-jump-on-the-band-wagon-ironically-cool NB fans. I've been rocking those kicks since they were true nerd shoes. Since the '80s, yo! Word.
I always play barefoot. I can't play with shoes on.
