Writing isn't about the process. It is about creating. The joy comes not from the process but from the creation.
I don't find any real rivalries with crime and thriller writers anyway. That might sound a little Pollyanna, but for the most part the writers I compete with, if you want to use that word, it's a pretty friendly rivalry. I think we all realise that the boat rises and sinks together.
I like to go out and write. So I'll often go to a Starbucks or a local coffee bar, and I'll sit there and I'll write. I can write pretty much anywhere.
Everything I write about either I have gone through or I know somebody has gone through, so it's very close to me, but sometimes it's about taking those feelings and exaggerating on them a little bit: being a bit more dramatic but still keeping them relatable.
Interviews can be interesting. A bit like going to a psychiatrist, you know?
We buy the tabloids to witness someone else's life go wrong, so we can feel a bit better about our own troubles.
Especially while television I think is going through some growing pains or is in need of - I think current comedy is a bit, uh, not happening, you know?
I've learnt how to develop routines. To play with each bit. To enjoy expanding on it. To get used to the stage being mine.
