I don't know what singers feel like when they make a song and people clap along and love it, but when people walk up to me and say the food was outstanding, that's what it is all about. I cook because I like to make people happy.

I transitioned into theater and acting when I was about 9, community theater and musicals, being, like, chorus-kid-number-78 or whatever. But I just loved it. As a kid you just crave attention, and early on I just felt it was so cool and fun to play around and have people clap for me. But eventually I grew up and fell deeper into it.

It's about the audience - if they laugh and clap, you feed off that, and if they don't, you doubt everything you've ever done.

I've never considered myself an actor; I get much more immediate satisfaction singing. If you sing good, people clap. On television, you never know whether you've done well or not.

Okay, so 'clap back' is when you might be in a confrontation with someone and they're coming at you negatively, but you put them in their place but without being too nasty, so you just clap back a little bit.
