The best artists know what to leave out.

The beginning of a friendship, the fact that two people out of the thousands around them can meet and connect and become friends, seems like a kind of magic to me. But maintaining a friendship requires work. I don't mean that as a bad thing. Good art requires work as well.

As far as I'm concerned, the only difference between fact and what most people call fiction is about fifteen pages in the dictionary.

The thing with pretending you're in a good mood is that sometimes you can.

It's good to have mysteries. It reminds us that there's more to the world than just making do and having a bit of fun.

Art is a form of experience of the person, the place, the history of the people, and as black people, we are different. We hail from Africa to America, so the culture is mixed, from the African to the American. We can't drop that. It's reflected in the music, the dance, the poetry, and the art.

There is nothing new in art except talent.

The rainbow flag is beautiful because it's about love. The Confederate flag is ugly because it's about hate. It's pretty simple from the art level: beautiful versus ugly.

Football is an art, like dancing is an art - but only when it's well done does it become an art.
