I try not to dwell on the past. I'm not a big go-back-and-try-to-relive-your-past kinda person.

There are some good people. But a good chunk of them will lie for no reason at all - it'll be ten o'clock and they'll tell you it's nine. You're looking at the clock and you can't even fathom why they're lying. They just lie because that's what they do.

No matter your religion or what your political views are, I think there's one thing we can all agree on. Most human beings are not meant to be alone. I know I'm not.

Although music comes from a very personal place, talent is meant to be shared.

A lot of our scripts are based on this question of 'What is our responsibility to each other?' 'What are we meant to be doing with each other?' It all really gets down to a basic idea of 'What is America?' How do people survive? How are they able to find joy in life and raise kids under tough circumstances?

I'm not a one-hit wonder who got lucky. This really is my life. I was born with this talent, and this is what I meant to be. I'm totally grateful.
