So the competition isn't once you got the license, running the station; it's getting the license.
But having said that, what's happening with campaign finance reform and our political culture is devastating.
But having said that, there's also a sea change in attitude towards media.
Because what's going on now, and this applies mostly to television stations in the largest markets too, but TV stations basically are now the primary receivers of campaign spending.
I never wanted to be the face of the brand. You haven't seen me in my own ads. You don't see my logo all over my clothes. From the beginning, I wanted the clothes to stand on their own.
It is hard to get good actors who also do television, ads and films. Theatre requires six weeks of rehearsal for a play.
New online formats gutted the newspaper-ad business. Why pore over tiny print looking for a job in the want ads when you can tap a few keywords into monster.com, then click through and apply? Why pay a steep per-character rate for a classified when you can hawk a whole garage full of used stuff on EBay or Craigslist for free?
If I can convince people that good people don't do attack ads, and that we want good people to represent us, then the attack ads work against themselves.
