In fashion, you need to present something new every six months, but it takes time to study things. Development is very important.
A-POC respects that there is a fine balance between the value of the human touch, which can be called artisanal, and the abilities of technology. I like to think of it as poesy and technology.
In the past, art was admired and revered from afar. Today, there is more of an interactive relationship between the art and the person who admires it.
I am most interested in people and the human form.
The media was always so focused on the money a movie makes. But I was in Times Square, and a bunch of Japanese tourists looked at me and started shouting, 'Toula!' I loved it. It's these tiny moments of connection that register with me the most and always have.
I used to run a Japanese review website way back in the day, around about 2003, 2004. It was just my own little personal thing, because I was just obsessed with Japanese cinema.
I've had fans coming up to me and speaking Chinese or Japanese. It's not a case of mistaken nationality. I just don't think they realise that we don't all speak the same language.
Sort of like, I have to make the Japanese lyrics really deep.
But in Japanese, there's actually not much of a relationship between the music and the words.
